Caring for Your Assos Product
Unless you’ve got a Swiss uncle that runs Assos’ warehouse, you probably have to pay cold hard cash for the world’s best cycling garments. Why not protect your investment by caring for it properly. As we like to say around the shop, care for your Assos and it’ll care for you.
Washing
Rule number one with all Assos garments: Always either hand wash (preferred) or machine wash on the delicate cycle with Assos Active Wear Cleanser and line dry out of direct sunlight. Machine washing on delicate (and using the laundry bag provided for shorts) will not likely harm your expensive garments, but throwing your Assos in the dryer will have an effect on its functional life. .
Should you not need to wash your Assos after a given ride, hang the garments on a well-ventilated area that is out of direct sunlight.
If you have a tendency to sweat more than most, rinse your garments in plain tap water (without cleanser) after each use. This will protect the fibers from bacteria that might lead to deterioration.
It’s not a good idea to store damp clothes in a non-ventilated area, like a plastic bag or suitcase.
Before hand washing be sure to turn the garments inside-out (seams on the outside).
When you wash a garment by hand take care not to put excess stress on the fabric and especially the seams.
To remove excess water from your garment gently squeeze by hand.
Dry garments flat or hanging, but do not ever tumble dry.
Additional Tips
Here are some additional tips that will help you to guarantee maximum life for your Assos garments:
When dressing or undressing do not pull on the seams of a garment—this could cause them to separate. This is especially the case when removing a damp garment.
Before starting a ride, settle onto your bike in the riding position and gently adjust the position of your garment’s grippers, seams, insert, zipper, etc.. Trying to adjust fit on-the-fly usually leads to excessively stretched seams and torn fabric.
Taking a nature break on the side of the road? Avoid pulling the front of the shorts down with great force; bend slightly over to minimize stress on the seams of your bibs.
When not in use, be sure to remove everything from the pockets of your jersey or jacket. Leaving a heavy load in the pockets will only stretch and deform them.
Avoid wearing Assos garments with those from another brand. The inferior fit and fabrics of other brands could cause a bad reaction with your Assos. OK, just kidding with that last one.
