Our latest Baum build is this Cubano in a straight forward but still eye catching black and white paint scheme.  Baum calls this the GTB scheme in their GT line and is shown with their new GT head badge.  All frames ship with a fork and Chris King or Tune headset as well.  Options include a custom painted stem and post to finish it off.

There are two options for the fork as well, either an Enve or 3T fork.  In this case Darren Baum wanted to use the 3T as he wanted to go with the 53mm rake fork which is not an option with Enve.  This was due to the size of the frame and geometry used.  The paint is as meticulous as ever and is one of the key features of the Baum frames…

One thing to note with this bike (and a very large number of bikes we build for cyclists all over the world) is that everything was done over the phone or email as Curt is not from the Bay area.  But as you’ll see in the following pictures the bike came out perfectly down to the spacers under the stem, stem length, and even the saddle rails being centered on the seat post.  This comes down to clear communication between the cyclist and us and then us to the guys and girls in Australia.  Every last detail is taken into account and the end result is simple; having a great ride on a bike that fits like a glove, weather it’s a stock size or completely custom.

The dropouts on the Cubano are not quite as beefy as on the Corretto and also do not receive the custom butting that the Corretto does.  But they are still quite over sized and feature the scalloped ends where the stays meet the dropouts.

Low key…

Attention to detail.  The bottom bracket uses only the amount of threads needed and then is machined to be as light as possible.  Also, the chasing and facing is second to none in fit and finish.

Perfect fit for the Campagnolo Rear Derailleur.

The best way to deliver a bike is in person of course and Curt made the trip up to pick it up and do the initial ride on the Cubano with us.  We took him on a course that would have all terrain features so he could really test the bike and see what it could do.  This is also a great opportunity for us to fine tune all the adjustments and make sure it’s working perfectly after the shake down.

We may be biased but we believe that our neck of the woods offers some of the best riding in the world so a trip to Marin to pick up your bike is the perfect excuse for a mini holiday and a chance to get in some amazing riding!

This Cubano was built with a Campagnolo Record group except for the Chorus front derailleur, chain and cassette.  Bar, stem and post are all the Zipp SC in aluminum.  Saddle and tape are from Fizik, tires are Continental Sprinters and the wheels are Zipp 303 tubulars.  All in, with the King titanium cages and Dura-Ace pedals the bike weighed 15.4lbs.

The Zipp SC parts worked perfectly with the finish of the frame and are some of the best parts out there today.

After leaving Muir Beach overlook and past Stinson Beach we turn off of Hwy 1 and head up the 7K climb of BoFax and then hit the 7 Sisters.  This is the first sister and is where the fog started getting really thick…

And around here, where there is fog there is usually rain, or at the least really wet roads.

This is a shot from Curt’s second ride on the Baum Cubano which is about as opposite as you can get from the first, at least weather-wise…

This was a great bike to build, starting from “what the heck should I get” to what you see here.  The entire process took about 10 weeks from start to first ride and all involved had a blast.  Looking forward to making this more of a trend and hoping that everyone we build a bike for in the future can get out here and experience it like this.
