Bike of the Week: Piazza Peg

Derek Yarra |

Everyone in a while, you need to go back to your roots. Things evolve, tastes change, people grow, but you can never forget where you came from. Don't get us wrong–We love, disc brakes, we love gravel bikes, we love tubeless tires, and we love electronic shifting, but with this build we went pure, classic AC. We're talking Italian steel, mechanical Campagnolo, and our favorite German wheels. Follow along as we showcase our latest Pegoretti build, dripping in tried and true Above Category style.

Let's start things off with the frame. The Deunde, while lacking some of Dario's more obscure features, is without question one of the smoothest and fantastic riding bikes he produced. The Piazza paint scheme was one of our favorites of his more geometric variety. The depth of the red base needs to be seen in person to appreciate while the orange and yellow details are add a perfect pop.

Handling cockpit duties, it's all 3T. The new Apto stem clamps onto a Superergo handlebar. A classic Fizik Microtex tape serves as the grip for the bike.

Providing perch is the Fizik R1 Versus Evo. One of their newer models, the sleek and comfortable design is quickly becoming a house favorite. Holding it in place is the 3T Team seatpost.

We couldn't think of a more fitting groupset for this Italian creation than Campagnolo's 12 speed Super Record. The all black components subtly disappear on this work of art frame, but don't let that hide their performance. There's really nothing that matches the pleasure of riding an ErgoPower equipped bicycle.

There are wheels, and then there are Lightweight wheels. There are Meilensteins, and then there are Schwarz Edition Meilensteins. The pinnacle of ultralight German engineering, wheels don't really get any better than this. Equipped with CeramicSpeed bearings throughout, this is an astoundingly smooth ride.

We feel this Pegoretti is a perfect example of how to build a modern bike with the time-honored, classic AC approach. Would you agree? For any questions on an AC bike of your own, feel free to give us a holler.
