BOTW: More Mosaic, More Disc

Anthony Little |

This week's (technically last week's...) Bike Of The Week is Houston’s new all-terrain Mosaic, better known as the XT-1.  This is a cross bike for someone who doesn’t race cross, which is really, most of the population.  When built with a more friendly road going geometry it becomes the perfect machine for pretty much anything. Change the tires around and you have a bike that is as at home on the fire roads and tamer single track as it is on the road. We used a more aggressive tire from Vittoria to start with as this will be seeing primarily off road duty and if the weather forecasters are correct it will be wet soon and for a while.

Shimano mechanical 11 speed Dura-Ace is paired with XTR calipers and rotors and a full Fizik cockpit.  Hed Belgiums turned tubeless are laced to White Industries CLD hubs with through axles front and rear and topped off with Sapim CX-Ray spokes.  This bike is built for a lifetime of abuse and with Houston behind the throttle I’m sure it’ll see it.

44mm headtube to keep things steady with all the braking force coming down low and a good look at the rear White Industries Center Lock Disc (CLD) hub with through axle.  Braking courtesy of Shimano XTR calipers with 140mm rotors.  Also, note the pump peg on the head tube, we’ll see if that help keep the pump on in the rough stuff or if it’ll be a road only application.

Dura-Ace, maybe the best typeface of all the components out there (original Campagnolo excluded of course).
